Benefits
LATAN's Assistive Technology Loan Program assists people with disabilities purchase assistive technology through a special loan program. The reduced-interest, fixed-rate, extended-term loan program provides a worthwhile option in the funding maze facing consumers who need to purchase assistive technology to improve or maintain their level of independence, to increase or maintain their productivity, or to improve their quality of life.

Eligibility
The loan program application process is open to any individual with a disability residing in the State of Louisiana. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply. If you are not 18, a family member or guardian must serve as your applicant. Family members, guardians, and conservators may apply for a loan on behalf of an individual with a disability if they are unable to apply themselves.

A "disability" for loan program purposes is defined as any medical, developmental, learning, sensory, physical or psychological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. These activities include walking, reaching, communicating, seeing, hearing, learning, working or living independently.

Loan Amounts
LATAN and its funding partner, Regions Bank, will make reduced-interest, extended term loans from $500 up to $50,000, depending on the cost of the adaptive equipment and your demonstrated ability to repay your debt. You may borrow up to 100% of the equipment cost.

Qualifications
LATAN and Regions Bank have developed lending guidelines that will allow individuals with disabilities with less than perfect credit qualify for a loan. However, each applicant must be able to demonstrate an ability to repay the loan as well as their credit worthiness.

Payments
As with most conventional loans, a LATAN Assistive Technology Loan will require that you make monthly payments. Devices and Services Covered In the Loan Program
Any device or equipment that improves or maintains the independence of a person with a disability is eligible for a loan under this program. Examples are

• Computers with adaptive input or output devices
• New and used vehicle loans for vehicles that will be modified
• Loan refinancing for late model vehicles that have been modified
• Vehicle modifications
• Electronic communication devices
• Assistive devices for the deaf or speech impaired
• Closed circuit TV or Brailling machines for the sight impaired
• Adaptive driving controls
• Adaptive home modifications, inc. ramps and power lifts
• Prosthetics and orthotics
• Environmental control units (ECU)
• Wheelchairs (Power and manual)
• Adaptive mobility products
• Any service to support the AT device, such as assessments, training on the device, repairs and extended warranties
