The Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) assists individuals of all ages with all disabilities achieve a higher quality of life and greater independence through increased access to Assistive Technology as part of their daily lives. In its effort to reach as many individuals across Louisiana, LATAN has implemented this monthly electronic communication newsletter service to keep consumers, caregivers, educators, therapists, supporters and all Louisiana citizens informed of LATAN's programs, activities and services for individuals with disabilities.

| | Loans for Individuals with Disabilities |
| | | Fixed-Rate, Reduced-Interest, Extended Term Loans LATAN's Loan Program provides an alternative, affordable source of funding to assist people with disabilities or a family member purchase assistive technology through a special loan program. Amount of funding ranges from $500 to $50K. Devices and services covered include: computers with adaptative software or devices, the purchase of new and used vehicles, modifications to vehicles, adaptive driving controls, telecommunication devices for the deaf or speech impaired, wheelchairs, adaptive home modifications, prosthetics and/or orthotics. | | | Stop by LATAN's Booth, Experience Freedom The Expo will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008,8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., at the River Center located in downtown Baton Rouge, La. Day-long event is presented by WBRZ-TV and The Advocate. l Stop by and visit LATAN's booth for demonstrations on low vision devices, devices for people with hearing or speech impairements, high tech, low tech and equipment designed to increase independence and participation in community living, employment and school.

| | | The AT Marketplace has devices for sale, or donation listed by category, price and device name. It is a user friendly program that increases consumer knowledge of affordable, available devices, for use in education, employment, and community living environments. | | | LATAN Hires New Public Information Officer LATAN is pleased to announce the hiring of Maria Yiannopoulos as its Public Information Officer. She is responsible for the dissemination of information regarding programs, events, activities, and services available for individuals with disabilities to achieve a a higher quality of life and greater independence. In addition, she is responsible for fund development cultivation and procument as well as conducting presentations before groups, agencies and organizations interested in learning about how Assistive Technology can make a difference in a person's life.
