Device Demonstrations
New LATAN Service - AAC Programming
LATAN now offers a new service to assist with programming page sets for several different types of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices. This service offers individuals the opportunity to customize their device, ultimately providing AAC users with the most authentic communication experience possible. Customizing page sets includes selecting specific button behaviors, programming commonly used phrases, and incorporating photos of family and friends.
Speech-generating devices come in all shapes and sizes, with many different modes of operation. These AAC devices can range from simple static systems with pre-recordable buttons, to complex dynamic devices that run speaking software on fully operational computer systems. No matter how simple or complex the device, setting up and programming these devices can be challenging and time-consuming.

Assistive Technology demonstrations provide an opportunity for individuals to become familiar with various types of devices and to try out devices before purchase. Device demonstrations, consumers say, increase their ability to make an informed decision about the benefits, usefulness and appropriateness of the devices demonstrated for increasing their self-sufficiency and independence in education, employment, and community living. Providers say that demonstrations will increase their ability to assist their customers in making an informed decision.
In the effort to provide our consumers with the appropriate level of experience and special attention required to demonstrate different technology, we serve all consumers by appointment only.
North and South Louisiana Assistive Technology Demonstration Centers
