Financial Loan Program - FAQ

1. Is this a loan or a grant?

This is a loan. You are expected to pay it back. Nonpayment of this loan will have the same consequences as nonpayment of any other loan.

2. If I apply, am I going to get the loan?

Not necessarily. Merely applying for the loan does not guarantee you will get it. Your application will be reviewed under program guidelines and a decision will be made whether or not to approve your loan.

3. How much can I borrow?

The LATAN AT Loan Program can loan between $500 and $50,000 depending on the equipment you need and your ability to repay the loan.

4. What are the terms of the loan?

This will depend on the type of assistive technology you wish to purchase and the amount of money you seek to borrow.

The loan rates are based upon the Federal Reserve's prime lending rate, 1% or 2% above prime.

Unsecured loan terms go up to 48 months. Loans on newer vehicles can go 72 to 84 months. Older vehicles will range between 48 and 60 months.

5. How do I apply?

You must request a loan application either online or by phone, 225-925-9500 or 800-270-6185. The Loan Program will mail out an application to you.

6. What do I do once I receive the application materials?

You need to complete and sign the applications and compile all the documents and information listed on the checklist provided with the application. Once you have all these documents, return them to LATAN by mail.

7. I want to buy an AT equipped vehicle. What documents to I need to put together?

First, you will need to complete the application package. In preparing your application, you will need to obtain a written quote from the vendor on the vehicle. If the vehicle is not already modified, you will need to obtain a written quote on the modifications also.

You will need to obtain a quote from your insurance agent for full coverage on the vehicle being purchased.

You will need to copy the front and back of your driver's license.

You will need a prescription from your doctor for the assistive technology for the vehicle so that you will not have to pay sales tax on the modifications.

If another agency or organization will be covering some of the costs on the vehicle, you will need a written statement from them stating so.

8. When will I know about my application?

You will generally know something within 5-7 business days of LATAN receiving your completed application package.

9. If my application is approved, what happens next?

You will receive a call from a Regions Bank representative about closing the loan.

10. If my application is denied by Regions Bank, what happens next?

At your request, your application will be reviewed by the LATAN Loan Review Committee to determine if you qualify under their rules. If you do, your application will be approved.
